Welcome to Secure Pathways! I am so glad that you are here and are interested in improving your relationship with your children and others by better understanding yourself through the lens of your Enneagram (personality) type. My goal for these blog posts is to give you a clear picture of what secure attachment is and how to improve your connection with your children while also weaving Enneagram concepts and faith-based perspectives into the mix. I believe this journey begins with knowing yourself and understanding how God made you.
It is important to consider who we are and what we bring to parenting and what might get in the way of our best parenting. We all have things, whether it is personality traits, past experiences, or current stressors, that impact our daily decisions and our relationships. Parenting can be an especially intense relationship because we have the responsibility of raising and shepherding our children and we want our children to turn out to be healthy, happy, functional, productive adults. That can feel like a heavy burden to bear at times. For many parents, including myself, it can be hard to trust God to lead this process and to know the best way to respond to our children and their (often confusing) behaviors and emotions.
We are all complicated people with competing needs and demands and so are our children. It is important to not over-simplify or stereotype our personalities or circumstances but it is also important to have some structure and truth that holds things together. Having a firm foundation allows us to build a life that is anchored even when circumstances seem uncertain or chaotic. I have found the Enneagram to be the best tool (when paired with scripture) to help me connect more personally with the Lord and to be open to how He created and gifted me and how he might be calling me to change.
I want you to feel supported and understood as a Christian parent. My hope is that you will find some ideas from my website, blog posts, and other offerings that will help you to become a more confident parent and to live out the calling God has given you to raise and nurture your children in a way that is consistent with the Bible and also based on good attachment science.
